Welcome to Arrowood!
Back in 1973, Whitey Johnson and John Meslow were inspired to create an overnight basketball camp for girls! The first year, Whitey and John sent brochures to every high school coach in the Twin Cities. That first summer brought 46 campers to Green Lake Bible Camp in Spicer, MN. The next year, Arrowood doubled in size and continued to grow prompting Whitey and John to find a new site. They came across Chi Rho Center on Lake Sylvia near Annandale, MN. It has been "home" to Arrowood since.
Today Arrowood, run by Whitey's daughter, Jenny Johnson and Dee Dee Deeken, has helped thousands of young girls develop their basketball skills over the years. Cooperative learning initiatives, team building challenges, and the Arrowood Olympics have been new additions, while things such as canoeing, a fabulous staff, and skit night have remained staples of camp.
Arrowood is located at the Chi-Rho Center on Lake Sylvia, which is seven miles from Annadale, MN and approximately 60 miles west of Minneapolis. In addition to the rustic cabins, dining hall, and lodge, beautiful sandy beaches with canoes and rowboats border the camp on both sides. Playing basketball in a gym is great, but playing outside surrounded by beautiful trees, under the sun, and in the company of the occasional loon is awesome! We spend a large part of the day on the three courts, but in the event of inclement weather alternate activities will be provided. However, we do play our basketball outdoors to the extent possible.
